How cybersecurity is protecting nonprofits from digital threats

From humanitarian aid and healthcare to education and environmental protection, nonprofits are driving progress worldwide. However, as they work to create a better future, they face a growing, invisible threat.

In the last four years alone, CyberPeace has identified 137,713 cyberattacks targeting nonprofits, disrupting life-saving services, exposing vulnerable communities, and jeopardizing critical missions. And that’s just the beginning.

Nonprofits are increasingly targeted for the critical services they provide, the sensitive data they manage, and the financial resources they control. They often operate in areas where government services are lacking or inaccessible, making them essential lifelines for vulnerable communities.

The data they handle, ranging from healthcare records to personal identification, makes them attractive to cybercriminals. Additionally, with substantial funding flowing through nonprofit organizations, they are clear targets for financial fraud and theft.

The CyberPeace Institute is solving this problem by equipping nonprofits with the cybersecurity tools and support they need to stay secure. A single attack can disrupt services, delay aid, or cause financial loss.

The CyberPeace Institute, in partnership with the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth is working to ensure that nonprofits can continue their missions with confidence, knowing their operations are protected.

Cybersecurity isn’t just about technology, it’s about protecting the people and the progress nonprofits enable.

By strengthening the cybersecurity of the nonprofit sector, we create more resilient communities, uninterrupted services, and a future where organizations can continue their vital work, free from the fear of digital threats
