External Engagement

Jeremy Hillman is Senior Vice President of External Engagement at the Mastercard Center for Inclusive Growth, where he is responsible for building external relationships and strategic partnerships.

Jeremy has a strong background in development and communications. Most recently, he served as Director of Corporate Communications for the World Bank Group, where he advised two World Bank Presidents on internal and external communications strategy including reputation and issue management. At the World Bank, he headed a large, global communications team managing all aspects of digital content strategy.

Prior to that Jeremy was Director of External Communications at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation where he worked closely with the co-chairs, Bill and Melinda Gates, on media and digital content and strategies in support of its global health, development and education work, as well as building a new global team to support the communications and outreach for the foundation.

Jeremy spent much of his earlier career as a journalist and editorial leader at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) where he headed the Business and Economics Unit—a team of 175 business, economics and technology journalists—through the 2008 global financial crisis. He also ran the newsroom of the BBC’s global, commercial news channel—BBC World News—in addition to other leadership roles in Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

Jeremy is a member of the Performance Theatre Advisory Board, a multinational group of private sector leaders collaborating on leadership strategies to achieve sustainable growth and tackle climate change. He chairs the Inspired Leadership Award, recognizing ground-breaking social entrepreneurs. He is also an advisor and former board member of Little Free Library supporting child literacy and reading diversity in the U.S. and globally.

In his spare time, Jeremy enjoys woodworking and looking after two dogs and five chickens with his wife Zoe, an educator, at their home in Bethesda, Maryland.
